Bringing Zigong Lantern Craftsmanship to a Major Chinese New Year Cultural Attraction
As the Chinese New Year season approaches, the lantern industry enters its busiest production period. Every year, skilled lantern craftsmen from Zigong travel across China and overseas to deliver large-scale illuminated attractions for festivals, tourism destinations, cultural events, and nighttime entertainment projects.
For Zigong Jiucai Culture And Art Co., Ltd., the 2020 Spring Festival season marked another major milestone.
Jiucai Culture successfully entered into a five-year strategic cooperation agreement with Guizhou Longtouma Liquor Group Co., Ltd. and Zunyi Daogiao Agricultural Expo Park Co., Ltd. to develop the 2020 Longtouma · Guizhou Agricultural Expo Park Spring Festival Lantern Festival in Zunyi, Guizhou.

The project combined traditional Zigong Chinese lantern craftsmanship, local culture, festive celebrations, and interactive nighttime entertainment to create a large-scale seasonal attraction for visitors.
A Large-Scale Custom Lantern Festival Project
The project represented a significant investment of nearly RMB 10 million, demonstrating the scale and ambition of the planned lantern festival.
To deliver the project, Jiucai Culture assembled a production and installation team of approximately 100 experienced craftsmen, designers, engineers, and project personnel.
The project was scheduled for approximately two months of intensive production and on-site preparation.
Behind every illuminated installation was a coordinated workflow involving:
- Creative Planning
- Cultural Research
- 3D Design
- Structural Engineering
- Lantern Fabrication
- LED Lighting
- Quality Control
- Transportation
- On-Site Installation
- Final Commissioning
This integrated approach allowed Jiucai Culture to manage the project as a complete lantern attraction rather than simply supplying individual decorative products.

Designing a Lantern Festival Around Zunyi's Cultural Identity
One of the key challenges of a large-scale cultural tourism project is creating installations that feel connected to the destination.
For the Zunyi project, Jiucai Culture's creative team conducted in-depth research into the city's red cultural heritage, local traditions, Spring Festival customs, and regional identity.
These cultural elements were combined with traditional Chinese New Year imagery and contemporary visual design.
The central theme of the exhibition was:
“Retracing the Long March and Celebrating a New Era"
The theme provided the creative foundation for the overall exhibition and allowed traditional lantern art to be integrated with local cultural storytelling.
Instead of simply repeating conventional New Year lantern designs, the project introduced a combination of:
- Traditional Chinese lantern craftsmanship
- Regional cultural storytelling
- Spring Festival elements
- Historical and cultural themes
- Contemporary visual design
- Interactive attractions
- Large-scale illuminated installations
The result was designed to create a more immersive visitor experience while strengthening the cultural identity of the destination.
Eight Themed Exhibition Zones
The lantern festival was planned around eight major themed sections, creating a progressive nighttime journey for visitors.
Each zone used different combinations of lantern structures, illuminated sculptures, cultural scenes, and interactive elements.
This type of zoned planning is particularly valuable for large parks and tourism destinations because it helps:
- Extend visitor dwell time
- Create recognizable photo opportunities
- Improve visitor circulation
- Build a stronger storytelling experience
- Connect multiple attraction areas
- Create additional nighttime tourism value
For destination owners and event organizers, these considerations are just as important as the visual appearance of the lanterns themselves.

From Zigong's Traditional Craftsmanship to Modern Attraction Design
Zigong is internationally recognized as the “City of Lanterns", with a long history of traditional Chinese lantern craftsmanship.
Jiucai Culture combines this traditional heritage with modern engineering and attraction-design techniques.
Our lantern production integrates:
- Silk Fabrication + Steel Structures + LED Lighting + Artistic Modeling + Structural Engineering + Modern Manufacturing
This combination enables us to create custom installations ranging from traditional Chinese lanterns to large architectural gateways, illuminated sculptures, cultural scenes, animal lanterns, fantasy installations, and immersive festival environments.
For international clients, this means a lantern project can be developed according to a specific theme, site, cultural identity, visitor flow, installation environment, and project budget.
A Large Production Team Behind the Scenes
Large lantern festivals require precise coordination between design, manufacturing, logistics, and installation.
For the Zunyi project, Jiucai Culture deployed a team of approximately 100 personnel to support the manufacturing and project execution process.
While winter temperatures presented additional working challenges, production continued according to the project schedule.
Every major lantern installation required multiple stages of craftsmanship, including:
- Concept Development
- Detailed Design
- Steel Frame Fabrication
- Silk and Fabric Application
- Electrical and LED Installation
- Artistic Finishing
- Quality Inspection
- Transportation
- On-Site Assembly
- Lighting Commissioning
This project demonstrated Jiucai Culture's ability to coordinate a large-scale production team and deliver complex custom lantern installations under a fixed project schedule.
Why Turnkey Lantern Manufacturing Matters to B2B Buyers
For overseas buyers, a large lantern festival is rarely just a product purchase.
A successful project involves multiple challenges:
- How should the lanterns be designed for a specific destination?
- Can the supplier customize the artwork and dimensions?
- Can large steel structures be safely manufactured and transported?
- Are the lighting systems suitable for outdoor use?
- How will the products be packaged for international shipping?
- Who coordinates installation and commissioning?
- Can the manufacturer meet a fixed opening date?
- Can the same supplier manage multiple attraction zones?
- Can lantern structures be reused for future festivals?
Jiucai Culture's turnkey project model is designed to address these challenges.
From creative concept and structural engineering to manufacturing, export logistics, and on-site installation, our team can support the complete project lifecycle.
More Than Chinese Lanterns: Building Complete Cultural Attractions
Today, Jiucai Culture's capabilities extend beyond traditional lantern festivals.
Alongside custom Chinese lanterns and festival lighting, we manufacture animatronic dinosaurs, simulated animals, and themed attraction models for international clients.
These products can be used in:
- Zoos
- Theme parks
- Wildlife parks
- Museums
- Family entertainment centers
- Shopping malls
- Cultural tourism destinations
- Nighttime attractions
- Seasonal festivals
- Public events
This combination of lantern manufacturing + animatronic attraction production allows clients to develop more diverse visitor experiences from a single manufacturing partner.
For example, a zoo or theme park can combine a seasonal Chinese Lantern Festival with realistic animal lanterns, animatronic dinosaurs, simulated wildlife, illuminated gateways, and themed photo installations.
Creating Nighttime Tourism Experiences
Large-scale lantern festivals can play an important role in extending the operating hours of tourism destinations.
When combined with cultural performances, food, retail, interactive entertainment, and social-media-friendly photo locations, illuminated attractions can transform an ordinary evening into a complete nighttime visitor experience.
This was one of the core objectives behind the Zunyi project.
Rather than viewing lanterns simply as temporary decorations, Jiucai Culture approaches large-scale projects as cultural and commercial attractions designed around visitor experience.
For tourism operators, municipalities, theme parks, and event organizers, this approach can help create:
- Longer Visitor Dwell Time + More Nighttime Activities + Stronger Destination Identity + More Photo Opportunities + Seasonal Tourism Content
